Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles) By Kevin Hearne

This is the first book I’ve read by Kevin Hearne.  Colour me impressed.  It’s a great story set in an awesome modern world full of magic.  The best part of the story though is the banter style dialog between the protagonist and his Irish Wolf Hound.  The dog is both naive and wise and the banter provides a comedic counterpoint to what can otherwise be fairly heavy situations.  If you like Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files series, or Kim Harrison’s Hollow’s series you’ll likely love this book too.  It’s equally faced paced and balanced between action, story, and sometimes witty dialog.  There’s two more books in the series so far and another one coming out in April and I’m looking forward to digging into them as well.

You can get your copy here: Hounded (The Iron Druid Chronicles, Book One)

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

The Hollow Men, T.S. Eliot (via booklit)

This is one of my Favorite poems.  I’m pretty sure I first read it at the beginning of a chapter in a Stephen King novel :)..

So I just finished Mockingjay The Hunger Games Book 3

I’m sort of a little disappointed.  It wasn’t a bad book, to fair it was actually a pretty good book.  That said I don’t think it lived up to the first two…

During the years of 2007-2011, Dame Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) continued to film the final Harry Potter movies, all while battling Breast Cancer. During the filming of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Smith had shingles and was forced to wear a wig in order to continue filming.
On the subject, Smith said, “If there’s work to do I’ll do it. I’ve still got to stagger through the last Harry Potter. The cancer was hideous. It takes the wind out of your sails and I don’t know what the future holds, if anything. You feel so ghastly, you wouldn’t mind dying a lot of the time. The last couple of years have been a write-off, though I’m beginning to feel like a person now. My energy is coming back. I ought to pull myself together a bit.” If anything, she’s a truly incredible and inspiring woman, and should be admired greatly.

My fucking hero

Reading Mockingjay book 3 of the Hunger Games

  1. It doesn't feel like it has the same pace as the first two books. It's still a great story, just feels like it's missing some of the page turner qualities of the two earlier books. What did you think? Let me know!
